Posters are everywhere. Most consumers have become so used to their presence in stores, restaurants, medical offices and every public space, that they almost forget they are there. This does not mean that a well-designed poster will go unnoticed, but it will require a large size and sharp colors to catch a consumer’s attention.

What kind of big color posters are available from a printer? Remarkably big color posters can come in some "standard" sizes, and they are also available in almost unlimited sizes as well. This is because many high quality printers will purchase jumbo printing equipment that is capable of producing banners of great size, and which can also create beautiful glossy posters as well.

A brief listing of what printing options are currently available for big color posters would include the traditional 11 inch by 17 inch posters that are usually mounted on a foam or corkboard backing. There are also 36 and 48 inch wide papers that can be printed to almost any length desired.

Of course big color posters are not banners and should not be designed to hang outdoors in all kinds of weather. They can however be designed for hanging anywhere indoors and all year round.

How does someone design a big color poster? Like all custom print jobs, a poster will require the correct file format. It is important to determine what the printer will need before beginning to design the job, but most printers will all have one, two, three and four color printing options available for posters.

Additionally, a big color poster might also be able to have photographic images as well as graphics and unique fonts incorporated into the design, but this is something that must be discussed with the printer before the files are created. It is important to remember that not all images or graphics will reproduce well when "blown up" to such jumbo sizes as those on posters, and if the quality of the file is not appropriate to the printing job the printer will let the customer know right away.

When considering one of the smaller poster sizes it might be good to note that there are many different colors and weights to the stock used, and this could add some real emphasis to a poster printing job. For example, a simple poster intended to advertise a special event might really "pop" if printed on a bolder colored stock such a gold or salmon color.

What if I want only a single copy of my big color poster? There are many commercial printers who are happy to extend a special price for a single, over-sized print job such as a big color poster. Many commercial printers are happy to send paper samples and electronic copies of past jobs to demonstrate the capabilities of their presses, and this is always a good idea to request.

There are many printing options for those who need big color posters and they can be a great deal of fun to design and create.

To have to leave this mortal coil at the height of your career, and at the top of your game, is certainly one of the tragic truths to befall Bob Marley. At the time he departed mother earth, he had the largest following of his career, and the message he preached in his music and through his beliefs was reaching a critical mass. Bob Marley and the Wailers were attracting the biggest audiences ever during their 1980 tour. Larger than they had ever seen, and larger than any touring band had ever seen.

Exiting stage left at this point in your career is certainly one way to guarantee legendary status for years to come. While it’s true that an untimely death, or the death of any pop culture superstar often spikes a resurgence of their popularity, few have sustained it for such an extended period. It has now been over twenty five years since Bob passed away. His popularity through his music, beliefs, art, and posters continues to win over new fans generation after generation.

The ongoing and ever growing saga and myth that is Bob Marleys, was truly cross cultural in its truth. While he often sang about oppression and slavery as it had happened to people of Africa, the effect didn’t just top at the African border. Because there was so much truth in the words and the music, the message reached across borders. Where ever there are people, there lives a smattering of oppression and injustice amongst peace, love and harmony. As long as there were people to listen Bob Marleys music was able to find an audience. His message was universal and mostly of all it was human. It spoke to the humanity in all of us, regardless of our position, wealth or current beliefs.

Bob Marley didn’t just sing about the darker side of humanity, he recognized both the best of humanity it his words and music as well. Just take a look at some current day Bob Marley posters, to get a glimpse into the soul of the man. Some of the most uplifting music ever recorded sprang from his talents.

One Love. One Heart. Feel all right. Three Little Birds. These are not the words of a man dragged down by the darker side. A true artist uses his gifts to express and represent all human emotion. He sees the larger picture and paints it all. It is an even handed representation of the world in which we live.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder! This is certainly the case if you look at food posters. Whilst there purpose is predominantly to tempt and entice you to trying the food products advertised, there are some posters which are ugly and would have the reverse affect for many people.

Vegetarians and Vegans would undoubtedly find any posters relating to meat or fish distasteful, while others will be repulsed by the hard hitting posters which are being used to quite literally put people off particular types of food for the sake of their health.

Clever advertising and shock tactics are being used to make people sit up and think about the food and the amount of food they consume. Government health agencies have produced numerous ugly food posters which are targeted at schools in order to educate young people about the type of food they need to avoid in order to stay healthy.

Many such adverts use obese children as an indication as to the body size which some children reach purely due to their diet and whilst this enrages many people who are larger in stature than the ‘average’ person, these posters are being specifically designed and used to help lower the ever increasing number of people who are or are becoming morbidly obese.

1. A poster depicting an obese child trying to turn his head to reach a sweet biscuit which has been placed on each shoulder is being used not to promote the scrumptious biscuit but as a warning that if a child eats too many he or she will simply not be able to turn their head in the ‘normal’ way.

2. In the 80s poster depicting children eating baked beans was effectively used to draw people’s attention to the nutritional value of baked beans. Whilst the poster and it’s intentions may have been sound the children used have the most unnatural appearances and very strange eyes which seem to be actually watching you…scary!

3. Would you feel comfortable entering a boy or girl friend’s bedroom if there was a poster which showed you where the different cuts of meat are taken from an animal. With the heading ‘Guide to Identifying Meat Cuts’ you don’t have to be vegetarian or vegan to find this more than a little un-nerving!

4. De-motivational posters are a relatively new concept in as much as they are using the exact opposite of all good poster campaigns by using reverse thinking. A poster which shows a live chicken on fire. This poster has the slogan ‘You’re doing it wrong’ which is in itself an effective way to stay stop until you realise that the poster is actually promoting BBQ chicken. This poster is definitely not in good taste and one which many people will find very offensive.

5. Animal rights activists will be abhorred by the poster which shows sausages, chops and burgers on a BBQ grill with the headline ‘Animals have the right to be tasty’. Maybe this one is pushed the boundaries just a little too far.

With the impact of full colour poster printing, which provides immaculate imagery, there is food posters of all types being effectively used by both food manufacturers and health agencies to help sway public into the choice of foods they eat by the sheer yumminess of the food represented or by shock tactics to put us off our food entirely!

From the wall of one’s room to the windows of shops in crowded streets, posters have become an integral part of our lives. We use them to communicate with the rest of the world. Sellers use them to let people know about their products. Kids use them as a source of staying close to their imaginary friends. Rebellious teenagers use them to show that they’re different. Other people use them simply to decorate their walls.

What is special about these posters (the ones in people’s rooms) is the fact that they are a reflection of the person’s personality. They tell you a lot about the qualities, tastes, ambitions and aspirations of the person.
Poster subjects may range from cuddly animals to film stars, cartoons to quotations, rock stars to wrestlers, and so on. One particular subject, slightly less common, is cities; posters that showcase cities and their citizens. They may be landmarks, skylines, or just a simple thought about the city.

First and foremost without a doubt is the Big Apple – New York City! The citizens of New York love their city so much that posters which say ‘I (Heart) New York’ along with the words the image of the Statue of Liberty is among the top 5 city posters. Even though the statue was actually a gift, it is now a symbol which represents the city and is indicative of New York throughout the world.

Next there is the city of love: Paris. The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of Paris is the Eiffel Tower. Standing tall, it is not merely a landmark but an iconic symbol of the city. There are other symbols of course which are used to represent Paris, like cheese, perfume and the Paris Fashion Week, but they are not something one would necessarily like to put up on their walls.

Number three is the city of London with Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. The Royal guards standing in front of the palace seem as real as the wax models at Madame Tussauds, on the posters as well as in real life. One may wonder, if they don’t move no matter what you do, they’re not too much of a ‘guard’ are they? However, posters which incorporate these three iconic symbols of London are loved by tourists.

Another very popular landmark, which represents a city more than the building itself, is the Sydney Opera House, which puts Sydney in the top five of the top 5 city posters.

Last but not least, we have the city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Posters which have the infamous bridge are not merely wall hangings. They in fact are a representation of the pride that many Americans symbolised with all things great in America, the gate to all things Golden.

Nowadays colour poster printing is very affordable and you can get your own posters printed sitting in the comfort of your home. So it doesn’t matter if your city isn’t in this top five list. It is more important that it is on your personal top list and on your wall!

There seems to be quite a fascination these days, with old stuff. Or perhaps there always has been, but it was kind of tucked away in little niche corners, and unnoticed by the masses. Television shows like the Travelling Road Show, and the internet with its infinite collection of stuff on auction sites like eBay have brought the old stuff into the forefront. Or perhaps the least likely of contributing factors could just be, that I’m getting older and am starting to notice things of the same antiquity as myself. Naaah, it couldn’t be that.

Irregardless, one of the more fascinating old type of stuff floating around these days, is rare movie posters. At least, I find these things fascinating, because I’ve always had an affection for movies and for posters. As a youngster, my bedroom walls were often adorned with all sorts of posters. From movies, to music, to favorite books, to strange abstract images.

Album art covers used to be an obsession of mine as well. I’d be afraid to admit, to how many albums I purchased in my teenage years based simply on the look of the artwork on the album cover. Sometimes, I’d never even heard the song before. The progression to tiny little CD covers certainly ruined that obsession, while the popularity of downloadable MP3s, has all but squashed it into dust.

Fortunately, though movie posters of all types are enjoying a bit of a resurgence these days. Driven partially, by the number of home theaters people are installing in their primary residences. Nothing like a few life sized framed movie posters from some abominable b-grade movie to create a real theater feeling in your home. Antique popcorn machines, and fully reclining lazy boy theater seating just isn’t enough.

Truly original, and rare movie posters can be very expensive though. And difficult to find. Price is often driven up by a few factors. The most significant and obvious factor, would be the movie itself. While some of the lesser now B-grade horror and sci-fi flicks may have a very niche underground following, it’s the really popular movies like Wizard of Oz that will drive up the price of their posters today.

Personally, I like the older sci-fi, and horror movie posters, but that’s just the types of movies I would have been watching, if I’d had been a kid in those days. If I had to pick some favorites for my home theater walls though, it would be the movies Casablanca, Rocky (the first one), the original Star Wars, and The Natural.

How many times have you seen the large, framed posters of a giant blue whale’s tail splashing down onto the ocean? How about the poster with a sequence of shots taken of a giant wave crashing over a lighthouse? Usually there is an accompanying one-word inspirational or motivational imprint saying, for instance. "Team Work", "Motivate", "Energize" or take your pick from thousands of variations. If you have nodded your head at any time in this opening paragraph because you know the posters I’m referring to then really you ought to be asking what can really be so original and inspirational about an old print and some old words? If you are looking to inspire initiative in your people don’t you really need to be demonstrating the same traits as those you are looking to imbue in others – of course you do!

With digital cameras and photo software available at very cheap prices and which will allow even the most fumbling amateur to produce great looking images, you are now free to create your own posters to motivate and inspire your employees and your business partners.

The issue will be your subject matter for the poster imagery and selecting a print partner who will be able to create poster quality prints suitable for use and being put on display. Using your imagination in coming up with subjects to turn into a poster you should look no further than your own company to begin with. There are numerous subjects and moments which may be captured and will be eminently suitable for turning into a published poster. Look at your staff when at work or at play; look at your business location, your setting and physical impact upon your local community. If you are involved in social and community affairs, look at bringing these into the equation and don’t forget you have a stack of customers who will not likely be averse to some publicity and exposure at your expense.

You need to take a little time to think about the theme of your custom poster efforts; if your watchword is "Inspire" then you will be looking for moments when you can capture an image that helps define this character trait. For instance, an experienced employee showing a younger one how to get the job done – don’t have the two of them pose, because you’ll just get a set of posed smiling teeth – wait for the moment and let them work together so they become engaged in the matter at hand and not in you with the camera.

Your print partner will be easily able to turn your digital images into posters of any size though you should aim to stick with standard sizing to avoid expense. They will also be able to brush up your images so they stand out better – it is a simple matter for factors such as color and lighting to be adjusted and even cropping the image so you get a good subject position within the finished poster.

For the cost of a digital camera and some time with your print partner you can come up with a set of original and inspirational posters for use in your business and truly demonstrate the qualities you are looking for your people to adopt when at work.

Bob Marley’s full name is Robert Nesta Marley. He was born on Feb 6, 1945. If he was still alive today, he would be over 60 years old. Kind of hard to imagine isn’t it. Would the college kids still be jazzed about hanging pictures of some old reggae rocker on their dorm walls if Bob was still alive. A gray haired Rastafarian dancing and rocking on the stage like a man many years his junior. Of course, if Mick Jagger can do it (minus the dreadlocks) then why not Bob Marley. While I haven’t done the research, I would bet there are a lot more Marley posters, then Rolling Stones posters decorating the dorm walls of this generation.

You have to wonder, if music was still the path he would have chosen to follow after all these years. Bob that is. We already know which way the stones have gone. I like to think that he would have. While he was a man of many beliefs and causes, it was his music that seem to run central to most of it. It was the must that spread his message of love, equality, and peace to his generation, and to the generations that have followed.

Would his message have been so widespread without his tragic early departure, or would he have just went down in the annals music / reggae folk lore. He was incredibly influential and widespread during his time. Simply because his message was so universal. While many pop culture celebrities become more famous after their demise, I don’t believe that was Bob Marleys legacy. While it may have given some legs and stamina to his music and art, it never would have happened in the first place if he wasn’t one of the legendary music elite.

There is a bit of martyr spiced mixed in with his life, as part of the reason for his early departure had to do with his religious beliefs. Rastafarian beliefs don’t allow for amputation of body parts, even if they are cancerous and deadly as Bob’s was. His foot developed cancer from a soccer related injury years earlier. While many martyrs die at the hands of the oppressive persecutors, this was not the case here. Still, given how often he sang about persecutions, and being such a man of faith, it can be easy to make that mistake here.

Thankfully, today we still have Bob Marley posters to hang on our walls . . . Bob Marley music to listen to . . . and Bob Marley words to lull us to a more peaceful existence.

How did Bob Marley start into the world of music? As with many people, Bob’s path was a long and winding one, with may forks that eventually led him from very humble beginnings to musical prominence on the world stage. His father was a quarter master of a ship in the British West Indian regiment. His mother was actually 32 years younger then his father at the time. His fathers family was white, and due to increasing pressure from his fathers family, Bob Marley saw little of his father.

In his early teens, his mother moved the family from the northern part of Jamaica to Kingston. Not actually Kingston proper, but a small shanty town on the outskirts of Jamaica called Trenchtown. It was here, the Bob Marley would meet the future members of his band. Those included Bunny Livingston and Peter McIntosh. Here, in Trenchtown in very humble beginnings to say the least laid the seeds of one of the most remarkable and influential set of musicians to ever hit the world stage.

It certainly doesn’t seem to be the most likely recipe for fame and success, but the music business is a funny place. At least it was back then, before the big corporate moguls had their say and control. They did exert an influence to be sure, but not the way they do today. Back then, a talented artist, with a message, a little luck, and desire to break out of their surroundings was enough to create an incredibly rich and resonant musical success story the likes of which have never been duplicated. Whether such a remarkable story could happen today is debatable.

Luckily for those of us who were around during the ascension of Reggae music to world prominence, Bob Marley did happen. And his influence was felt everywhere. Not just in his music, but his religion, and his message of peace. A young boy growing up in what must have been very confusing times, managed to become an inspiration and spokesman for thousands world wide. His music and message still survive today. Bob Marley posters, art, music, and prodigy survive and flourish to this day.

We live in a lucky age, that allows for music to be recorded and passed on through the generations. It’s been over forty years since Bob Marley made his first album, and much of his music is still ingrained in out generations youth. One has to wonder, how many more years the next lucky generations will hear his gift.
